You can find very many herbs that have medicinal properties.
Ginseng – well-known as a stimulant, ginseng is also a very effective anti-anxiety herb. Lavender – commonly used as an aromatherapy oil, lavender is also an effective herbal remedy for anxiety, insomnia and general stress.
Lemon balm – although native to Europe, this sweet lemon-scented herb is now cultivated all over the world. Chamomile – this herb has always been used as a tea for relieving anxiety and promoting calmness. Passion flower – originally native to the Americas, this herb is now grown throughout Europe. Available in infusions, teas, liquid extracts and tinctures, it is commonly used to treat anxiety and insomnia.
A popular herb for anxiety, skullcap is used to treat stress, anxiety, nervous tension and also to ease insomnia.
Kava helps to relax contracted muscles, soothe frayed nerves, create a general feeling of well-being, enhance concentration and generally ease anxiety.
Physicians and prescription medications have their place, but if your anxiety is mild to moderate, herbs can play a real role in allowing you to manage this debilitating condition without side effects and damaging drugs.
Most people don’t realize the incredible therapeutic (healing) qualities of herbs. (Note: While other anti-spasmodic herbs are usually used instead, those same antispasmodic culinary herbs could be used for muscle spasms elsewhere, say from PMS, or leg cramps.)
Some people keep a bottle of therapeutic-grade peppermint essential oil on hand and just dot a drop or two on their abdomens when needed. (If you use antacids daily, this is not your best choice, although there are herbs and dietary changes that can help.)
Ginger is excellent to have on hand for another reason. First, you can make a liniment to apply externally to bruises and sprains and any pains you have (pain = inflammation). Since cayenne is a hemostat, meaning it stops bleeding, you can apply it to cuts. If it doesn’t stop the bleeding immediately, reapply a time or two.
Obviously, these are extremely serious conditions requiring immediate medical attention, but in true life-threatening emergencies, they might help save a life until medical help arrives.
