My Next Mission: To Find Love In The Bay Area
People always say there is no place like home, but for a 27 year old NorCal{/spin] native who has lived in [spin] Los Angeles for more than 40% of his life, it is hard for me to see myself ditching the sunny and warm weather for the cold, foggy city up in the Bay Area. Make no mistake, I still consider the Bay Area my hometown and will always be diehard Raiders fan for life. But when my mother recently asked me to move upto San Fran, I was very reluctant. For one, I love my friends here and second, it is hard to meet local women up north – at least that’s what I thought. As an obedient son, I decided to at least give my mother’s request some thought. So when I found out that San Francisco is ranked by Forbes’ Magazine as the winner of the best cities for online dating in 2008 while researching online, I was shocked. For years, my I was told by my college friends who moved up north how hard it is for them to find decent single women in or have terrific dating experience in San Francisco. Now, looking at the ranking of Forbes’ Magazine I became somewhat unsure about my friends’opinion so I decided to take a road trip back toSF to check it myself.
Prior to my trip to San Francisco, I did a little statistical study on the city’s population ratio between male and female. When I found out male has about 51% of the population, I was outstand setting and variety of upscale or casual plates. I can easily set up a romantic dinner with variety of food without milking my wallet. The second thing I want to check out in San Francisco is the night life, so visited different bars each day for a week and I came to this conclusion: night life in SF is awesome! From upscale clubs like Dolce to the economical Hush Hush, one can easily enjoy music played by world-class DJs and meeting some of the hottest single men and women in NorCal. Speaking of people, I was surprised to meet so many educated people during my 10 day trip in San Francisco, and this led to a new idea that was not on my list initially – how do tech savvy singles in San Francisco feel about free online dating sites? About 10% of the people I have talked to expressed they have tried online dating sites and only seven of them had actually gone out with people they met online. Surprisingly, these ladiesgot to know their ideal single men through “HintCafe”, another one of the free online dating services I have never heard of. I checked out the site and was not impressed by its layout initially, especially because it seems somewhat small, but then I noticed several interesting functions they have that I have never seen elsewhere. (Yup, not even match.com or eHarmony). The secure phone call was a great idea, as it lets you talk to people over the phone without sharing personal information; you can send evoice messages, chat with users and a bunch of other really cool features. No wonder those ladies were not afraid to go on a date with someone from cyber space. In my opinion, the best place to find single men and single women online is from smaller sites that are more interested in hooking up people than just generating their site’s traffic.
All in all, I totally agree with Forbes’ magazine that San Francisco is an amazing place for singles. Besides having many unique and beautiful attractions such as Golden Gate Bridge, Coit Tower on Nob Hill, and Island of Alcatraz, San Francisco has wide array of restaurants and amazing bars and club for night life. Most importantly, I find it easy for one to meet the right type of single man since the people here in NorCal are so diverse and unique. I still enjoy the sunny and warm weather in SoCal, but as far as dating experience and finding the right single person is concerned, there is really no place like home.
